Tibet: Songs From Exile
Combining music and daily sounds, this albums takes us to the high pasturelands of Chang Thang, inhabited byu nomads, and the refugee villages of the Leh Valley. This album highlights rural music forms that are quasi unknown outside of Tibet: many songs of slow, melodic phrasing, sung a cappella, shepherds’ flutes, peasant lutes etc. We also discover new musical forms that have come about in exile, inspired by Hindi pop music or a desire for asserting one’s identity. Mostly, we me an endearing people whose songs evoke a rich past in order to approach an uncertain future.
