DUO PEYLET-CUNIOT: KLEZMER, NIGUNS AND CO
An anthology of Nano Peylet et Denis Cuniot, a duo founded en 1983, taken from
VOLUME 1: MUSIC OF THE KLEZMORIM AND THEIR DESCENDANTS (1989)
VOLUME 2 : KLEZMER MUSIC OF YESTERDAY AND TOMORROW (1992)
VOLUME 3 : KLEZMER : FOR THE LOVE OF NIGUNS (2000)
"Nano Peylet and Denis Cuniot love Klezmer and Hasidic music… They love it intensely. They love the beauty of the melodies, the possibilities of expression and the astounding sounds of the clarinet drawing on this musical tradition. But they also love it when others share their enthusiasm. They love it when people outside the Central European Jewish community are aware of this music, and when listening to it makes them happy.
By the way, are they themselves Jewish? They are in the process of discovering and rediscovering this musical culture. With passion, with humour, and a few transgressions they devote part of their musical activities to working on and making heard the music of the Klezmorim and their descendants.
For a long time to come… quietly.
Nano Peylet and Denis Cuniot dream of Klezmer music becoming a source of inspiration, invention and improvisation for musicians the world over… true "standards" in a way… like jazz. Because, like jazz, Klezmer music is the product of a fusion of several cultures…" Peylet-Cuniot
