Au Cabanon

Chi Na Na Poun is the Provençal equivalent of oompah, representing the sound of brass instruments and referring, here, to the passion of one of Marseilles’ major poets, Victor Gelu, for marching bands and the like. The flexibility of this expression has extended its application to other musical forms such as the Andalucian copla and the Napolitan canzone. Patrick Vaillant(mandolin, vocals, melodica), Manu Théron (vocals, percussion) and Daniel Malavergne (tuba, vocals) revisit an imaginary love pantheon that features Rosa Balistreri, Bourvil, Império Argentina, Renato Carosone, Antonio Machin, Gabriel Fauré, Paul Verlaine and Boris Vian. The trio has come up with an exhilarating barter of aesthetic codes while remaining faithful to the spirit of each song: dark, ludicrous, romantic, rebellious, minimalist, alternative.
