Haitian Vodoo: 101 "Nations"
Music of the world
In Haitian voodoo, a « nation » is a family of deities (Mysteries, Saints, Angels), whose name is usually derived from African ethnical groups or tribes. A « service » is an ensemble of ceremonies during which the Gods are invoked. Each nation is celebrated on a particular day of the week. The service is a rare event, actually celebrated every seven year by the master-drummer Pierre Cheriza. This Cd features a selection of excerpts from the integral recordings, showing various musical facets of the ceremony and aiming to shine like the flag of the 101 nations featured on the front cover photo.
