Born in 1950 into a musical family in Paris, Luc Le Masne was able to sing and play the piano from the earliest age. When his medical studies were interrupted by the call of music and (free) jazz he acquired a saxophone and, gradually moving from improvisation to self-taught composition, went on to write his first works. He created several groups and orchestras to perform them: the big band Bekummernis, Terra Nova, and Le Manacuba.
This boxed set presents 23 works written for these three orchestras during the composer's travels and stays in France, Mexico, and Cuba. It was a deliberate choice not to present them in chronological order or by orchestra: they are presented as a suite, grouped according to purely musical criteria. In this way, the body of work is replaced by a separate work in its own right.
